Adapt returned this evening with the second event of season two. With a combination of lower ranked RLCS teams looking for some practice, bubble teams looking for their break through, and new rosters hoping them to find some form leading into RLCS, tonight saw an interesting array of results and some entertaining playoffs matches on stream. Here are our highlights from the day's play:
Defecate Vs Lost In Sauce
The first streamed series of the playoff saw two hungry, newly born teams going head to head, with the experienced 'Defecate' lineup taking on 'Lost In Sauce', who recently added Timmy to the team.
Early in the series, Defecate appeared to have the upper hand, with Lerky's pace and an incredible redirect able to get him the hat trick, and despite Lost In Sauce's physical play finding 2 goals, Defecate eased to a 3-2 game 1 win.
But a game down in the series, it was Lost In Sauce's time to shine, with the new inclusion Timmy finding a booming shot past Lunr for the first, with a clean pair of finishes from Spcterrr, including a zero second double tap, securing himself a hat trick of his own, with the team looking dominant in 4-1 victory.
Despite still being in his trial period on the team, Timmy looked absolutely phenomenal and in sync with the team's leading striker, Spcterrr, in the third game. A pristine pass from Timmy to Spcterrr found a bottom left finish for the first, and despite Defecate's best efforts with full team pressure granting Lerky the tying goal, Lost In Sauce retook the lead in commanding fashion, with an unbelievable passing play between Spcterrr and Timmy, followed by an incredible flick just under the bar from Timmy getting them the lead, which would prove enough for the win and 2-1 series lead.
After Lost In Sauce seemed fuelled on momentum with a quick goal to start off the game, Naspire looked shaky in defence, making two minor errors in defence to give Lunr the tie and Morse the zero second finish, and in a game this hard fought, that was all that could seperate the pair, gifting as a game 5 for the first viewed series of the night.
With the series tied up, and top 4 chances on the line, Defecate's defensive communication issues were clearly solved, with Lost In Sauce appearing settled again, game 5 was fought right down to the wire. Yet with the series in the balance, sent to overtime after an intense game of defensive efforts, the ball would fall to Spcterrr, the star of the series, in the corner, who calmly netted the finish, taking the series for Last In Sauce 3-2 in a nail biter, progressing to semi finals.
Men At Work: The Giant Slayers
A young, new roster of aggressive master minds, 'Men At Work' surely turned up today ready to play. After sweeping groups, MAW dominated former top 12 team Collateral Esports 2-0, with a sweep over the quickly rising Nut-E Gaming locking in a top 4 finish.
It was here that they were faced with Trident, who are coming off a playoffs finish in the last regional event and 2nd place finish, but it was MAW who were hot out of the gates, with an insane double tap pass from Airmac to pagsi finding a goal within 10 seconds, setting the tone for the series as MAW took the early leading, handing Trident their first loss for the night.
Despite some sketchy plays losing MAW games 2 and 4, exhibiting their freshness as a team and inexperience, their 3rd game was a work of art. In the 3rd, they peppered the crossbar throughout, with the insane pressure twice collapsing on Trident, with an Airmac quick pop and air dribble beating the bump, before an insane pass from pagsi off back wall back to Airmac granted him his second for the match, sealing the game 2-0.
We wanted chaos, and chaos we got, as both teams threw everything but the kitchen sink at game 5. Surprisingly, it was Smash who looked shaky early on, putting a horrific double tap in his own net, and although he redeemed himself shortly after, the momentum appeared already shifted, with pagsi following low, Tonio nailing a finish, and Airmac with an insane air dribble to find the 4-1 lead with 3 minutes still to go.
Yet even after running the clock down, this match, and series, wasn't finished just yet, as some incredible passing plays, with all 3 of Trident's members getting involved, finding some beautiful goals, as they tied it up, 4-4, with 13 seconds to go. But then chaos struck, once again, with Airmac finding the 5-4 lead off kickoff, which would be just enough to scrape MAW across for the 3-2 win after Row hit the side bar at zero seconds, sending them through to grand finals with a big upset over one of OCE's rising teams.
1620 Kings Repeat Form From RLCS
Following their top 12 debut last event, including a win over Bliss, 1620 Kings came in as heavy favourites, and proved it early, sweeping their way through to grands in promising fashion to set up a grudge match with Men At Work.
1620 Kings were eager to leave, with some of the players having matters to attend to after the tournament's completion, and looked the part early, with BakedPotato securing a top in finish off the crossbar, before Jaffa beat Airmac with a millimetre perfect bottom left shot to take game 1.
But MAW weren't ready to be counted out just yet, combining demos, an Airmac read, and a tad of luck on their goal line, with some of 1620 Kings' shots staying out after looking destined for a goal, to take the second game 3-1, handing the kings their first loss of the night.
With the momentum now in their favour, MAW were keen to continue in the third, with mind games on kickoffs and some scrappy plays helping them to win a hard fought game, staving off some late attempts at a comeback for just long off to take the game, and sending the prodigies to the 2-1 lead.
However, with their backs now against the wall, 1620 Kings proved why they're a force to be reckoned with at the top of OCE Rocket League. BakedPotato and Jaffa's offence was relentless in games 4 and 5, including a hat trick from BakedPotato, as MAW were largely unable to stop their variety and poise in offence, quickly losing their lead and looking all but finished after the game 5 demolition.
Yet even after an excellent start from Tonio on offence granted MAW the early 2-0 lead, 1620 Kings were hungry to finish the series, then and there, with a great Jaffa air dribble pass to Aimz, followed by an exquisite double tap from BakedPotato off kickoff sending the game to overtime, where Jaffa would draw the triple commit, opening up the net entirely for BakedPotato, who kept his cool under pressure to nail the finish, securing 1620 Kings the 4-2 victory and crucial points for finals qualification.
