After another action packed day in LA, it can be difficult to keep up with all the matches and mayhem at the major. To act as a guide for what series’ are a must watch, and which can be kept to the side.
Dignitas Vs KCP: 3/5
The kids’ debut certainly started with a bang, and shaped up as an interesting series to start of their LAN careers. With 2 goals within 20 seconds, the Pioneers’ chaotic offence was a treat to watch, as a 7 goal game one went in their favor.
Although they were unable to capitalize on the good start, 24 goals in 6 games made for an action packed series. You can be sure the Pioneers will return to the big stage, so a definite solid series to watch for those looking to see what OCE’s rising talent have to offer.
SSG Vs KCP: 2/5
KCP were back at it again, and SSG struggled early, much like Dignitas. But from there, it was mainly SSG being able to hold the defensive line against the less experienced OCE 2 seed, easing their way to a 3-1 series win. Certainly a solid series, and Arsenal’s passion was as vibrant as ever, but nothing to write home about.
NRG Vs Endpoint: 5/5
Endpoint play spoiler to NRG once more. After Endpoint beat NRG in 5 back in Stockholm, and from the get go, French phenom Seikoo played some of the greatest offensive Rocket League we’ve ever seen, with 7 goals in 2 games to lead to a 2-0 series lead.
But in the next 2, the wall of NRG returned, and after tying the series off the back of some matches that looked far more like the NRG we all know and love, it seemed NRG was bound for place in the 1st place tiebreaker. Yet with all to play for, and 40 seconds remaining in game 5, it was Seikoo who rose once more, finding the winning redirect to cap off an incredible series in incredible fashion.
RNG Vs Furia: 3/5
Minor region matchups are always a joy to watch, and this one had everything riding on it. For the Renegades, they were fighting for their tournament life, and for Furia, they were fighting for a top 6 finish, and history for the region of SAM.
But when it was all put on the line, it was OCE’s kings who rose to the challenge. They were able to effectively nullify yanxnz’s scary offence, their veterans rose on offence, and they completely shut Renegades out in a 3-0 sweep.
A match fought with a lot of regional pride, this was a brilliant exhibition of OCE’s ability, and will act as a good precursor for tomorrow’s tiebreakers.
DeToNator Vs V1: 0.5/5
Not much to see here really expect V1 picking DeToNator to pieces in a convincing 3-0 sweep. Everyone on V1 looked solid and they advance into top 6 with a wave of momentum behind them heading into the playoffs.
Queso Vs FaZe: 4/5
Although not having a huge impact, with the matchup essentially determining 2nd and 3rd in the group, which takes it down a peg, this series just about had it all. AYYJAYY stepped up big time in offence after a rough day 1, Joyo showed his mechanical ability in attack, and the chaotic nature of the series resulted in many high scoring games.
Definitely not the cleanest match from either side by their high standards, but an entertaining, game 5 matchup between NA and EU is hard to look past.
EG Vs Secret: 2.5/5
With both teams facing elimination, this series had everything riding on it, with 5 debutants playing and everyone looking to leave their mark with a playoffs berth.
Two defensive giants, this match was bound to be fought on the goal line, and didn’t disappoint. But when it come down to it, EG was the best at both ends, with their attack led by Rizex helping to solidify a solid win and locking in a top 12 finish. Some quality Rocket League, but missing the flair of the top teams.
BDS Vs G2: 5/5
An instant classic, no doubt about it. With so much writing on this match, as the winner would go to the upper bracket and top 6, whilst the loser forced to battle through lowers, the battle of two of the major region powerhouses capped off the day in the best way possible.
Atomic was completely outpacing BDS early, and paired with JKnaps‘ shooting, the Stockholm champions seemed all but finished. But from there, the series was cracked wide open as M0nkey M00n proved why he’s arguable the best in the world, and G2’s defensive errors began to creep in.
And with the series tied, game 5 was finished with a long, tightly fought overtime, as JKnaps found the bottom right to send G2 to uppers. The passion, the pride, and the quality plays of this series were a marvel to watch, and if you can only catch up with one series that you missed, this is the one to see.
