DeToNator Team Preview

Heading into the Winter Split, expectations on DeToNator we’re very low. They’d placed 3rd in APAC N in Fall, and after Nimmt55 showed glimpses of competing with Tokyo Verdy in Winter, they appeared sidelined to a second straight 3rd place finish to the split.

To their luck, Nimmt55 were unable to attend LA, and thus gave their spot up to DeToNator in the APAC qualifier, where instead of making up the numbers, they went through an incredible lower bracket run to qualify, including their crazy aggression against Tokyo Verdy securing the see-sawing game 7.

So despite all the odds, a team that previously found themselves struggling to contend within APAC N, now find themselves in attendance at the LA major. Can the fairytale run continue?

Unfortunately, probably not. Even with Olpix’s suffocating aggression, having recorded the most demos in the world within the season, Burn’s unbelievably strong offence and Mikan’s calm shooting under pressure, LA is going to be a whole different beast for the boys at DeToNator.

Like we saw with Verdy in Stockholm, the pace and the mechanics of international competition is likely to overwhelm DeToNator. Their defensive errors will be pounced upon, and the air dribbles, paired with their bumping, that grants them so many goals, will be shut down by the best in the world.

It‘s difficult to see DeToNator even taking a game in LA. But then again, they proved us completely wrong in the APAC qualifier, and maybe they’ll be able to put up a better fight than their Japanese counterparts and take APAC’s first game at LAN.
