After Tuesday’s action in 1s, the EU Masters continued again today with the second day of the 2v2 series, and what a day of action it was. Some top teams struggled, unknown teams rose to the occasion, and the fierce contention for playoffs progressed in some action packed matchups. Here are our highlights from the day’s play.

DavThis Get Critical Reverse Sweep

Group B contains a heated battle for playoffs, and two of the teams in contention for a top 8 berth heading into today were BS+ competition, the rising French powerhouse duo, and DavThis, an auto qualified team with an array of experience.

With BS+ Competition sitting at 2-1, and DavThis 1-2, the matchup was a crucial one for securing a playoffs position. Early on, Spineur and brofgod appeared to have the clear upper hand as they raced out to a 2-0 lead in the series.

But after being shut out two games in a row, it was DavThis’ turn for perfect defence, playing patient, reserved Sideswipe to concede just the one goal for the rest of the series, securing a prolific reverse sweep and notching up a much needed win.

Both teams claimed victory in their next matchup, leaving the pair sitting at 3-2 and seemingly battling for the 4th place finish.

Xz0tik Snag First Win In Big Upset

Coming from qualifier 4, and with little known about the pair, expectations were incredibly low regarding Xz0tik’s team of CRM and Sucette leading into the EU Masters.

And in the first week, this prophecy appeared to be coming to life as Xz0tik slumped to a 0-3 record, despite a fast start in their opening series, and seemingly eliminating themselves from any form of contention.

But today, Xz0tik have breathed new life into their tournament in what could go down as the biggest upset in Sideswipe history. Facing elimination and up against group B’s in form team of Gus_Gamer and Mika, who were 3-0 after week 1, the French duo looked to be destined for another loss. However, they were instead able to prove that there’s a very good reason why they find themselves in the tournament as the team put on a world class level display in their 3-2 upset win to keep their run alive.

Even though a following loss to BS+ Competition, where they were perfect swept in convincing fashion, puts their chances on thin ice, they’re still a mathematical possibility, and have at least proved their worth at the highest level today.

Double G Continue Fairytale Run

Although two of the more well known players heading into the event, few could have predicted the pure dominance that Galaxio and Gaspow have displayed under the Double G banner.

After coming out of the final qualifier, they hit the ground running with a 2-0 week 1 record, and certainly haven’t stopped their. Today, they were overwhelming offensively in a 3-0 Mewencyl, one of the expected top teams for the group, and cool under pressure when facing Team Mystic Black, where an overtime game 5 goal secured the victory.

Double G now possess a perfect, 4-0 record going into week 3, and with a spot in playoffs locked in already, the team has to be looking into making a run in playoffs as the dark horse contender for the throne.

Oslow’s Horror Run Continues

Signed by a top level organization, and with two previous top 4s and a convincing week 1 qualification to fall back on, Oslow went into the event with high expectations. However, these ambitions have now been firmly brought back to the ground.

After a 0-3 week 1 record, Oslow came into today seeking redemption and to keep their chances alive, but were thoroughly unable to do so, with losses to DavThis and Enjoy sentencing them to a 0-5, bottom of the table record, and putting them out of playoffs contention.

It’s a disappointing performance from a team that promised so much, and with the pair of Winex and Pamplemousse72 not qualified for the 1s Masters, they’ll have to lick their wounds and prepare for the next season of Sideswipe.

Further, Oslow’s pain has been amplified with the failures of their 3rd player, Ultimate25z on his alternatively named FC UltiRus. A two time 2s champion and considered the region’s best, FC UltiRus just haven’t been able to get anything going thus far this season and now slump to a 0-4 record, needing a pure miracle to make playoffs and leaving Oslow with a 0-9 2v2 EU Masters record.
