If any team is coming into LA with a heap of pressure, it’s certainly FaZe. A team backed by one of the biggest, if not the biggest, organizations in the world, with some of the biggest talents that North America has to offer, has largely failed to deliver on its potential.

In the Fall split, FaZe proved to be the 2nd best in North America. They won the first regional event of the split, and produced an impressive top 4 finish in Stockholm, as well as being the only team to defeat BDS.

Following the Fall Major, FaZe made the decision to drop veteran player Allushin in the place of SSG’s Sypical. On paper, this move seemed set to transform FaZe and help them reach that next level, as Allushin appeared at times without the firepower to make an impact at the highest level, whilst Sypical brought the raw mechanical prowess to bring another two way force to the team.

Unfortunately, it now seems that Allushin may have been the glue holding North America’s super team together. After Sypical’s joining, FaZe have gone 3rd, 3rd and 4th to take the #3 seed going into LA. Although they clearly haven’t been terrible, with triple top 4s nothing to scoff at, but they’ve seriously struggled against the best in the region. Their chemistry appears off, and despite their much hyped mechanics, they’re unable to maintain the flair needed on offence.

Going into LA, FaZe will be looking to make a statement. With Firstkiller’s unreal finishing ability, AYYJAYY’s mechanics and pressure, and Sypical’s vast experience and ability to build a wall around FaZe’s defence, it’s impossible to write FaZe off as a genuine contender in LA.

But if we want to see FaZe in contention, they’re going to need to find their peak quickly. FaZe are yet to drop a series in groups in Winter, but with the rising Queso and in form V1 in groups, that could well change. If they can take the group, they’ll find themselves in a position to seriously challenge for the championship, but if not, they’ve got a long road to make it to Championship Sunday, with anything less likely marked a failure for a roster this
