Well, this certainly wasn't the result we expected. Today's 2v2 event shows that the NA sideswipe scene is still adjusting and constantly shifting, with another new champion crowned.
Amir And Haru Struggle Against The Best
Amir has consistently been one of the best 1s players in NA sideswipe, placing 3rd on Thursday, but has once again falling short in 2s. After an easy pools run, they scraped past DazZ and Skitlz in a long overtime to set up a match with Aphelion.
But here, the team seriously struggled. Haru made some basic defensive errors, and Amir looked frequently out of confidence and positioning, despite nailing some clinical finishes, especially in game 2. Unfortunately, their second chance went no better than the first, as they were once again swept, being sent home in 5th place.
It’s not a terrible result, but questions should be asked internally about whether or not this is a winning lineup.
Fisci Returns To Form With Aphelion
It’s almost as though Fisci read our article, with him and Alex combining beautifully on Aphelion. They reverse swept PolarAce in an extremely tight series, before sweeping a strong Amir and Haru lineup to lock in top 3.
Although they faltered from there, losing out 4-2 to Binky Boys off some tough 50s and being overwhelmed by rayzoxxs’ shooting in a 4-1 lower finals loss, a top 3 finish is a strong one to build upon.
rayzoxxs and Brody Run Losers Bracket
Following a round 1 loss to War Knight and Fnord’s ‘Gold Shot Whiffers’, the day appeared all but over for rayzoxxs and Brody.
But we really should know better at this stage than to underestimate any lineup with rayzoxxs on it. They breezed past Father/Son Duo, with the top 4 1s player Mikey, before sweeping Aslan Bang’s Kayi Obasi to lock in at least a top 6 finish.
And they weren't finished just yet. rayzoxxs incredible ability to hold flip, with Brody feeding him passes and locking up the defence with long clears and clutch saves caused them to soar above Amir and Haru, before getting sweet revenge over Gold Shot Whiffers in a 3-0 lower semi final.
The team peaked once again against Aphelion, with rayzoxxs getting another one over rival Alex, and although they fell to a surprisingot dominant Binky Boys in grands, had a near full losers bracket run to grands and claiming $1000 USD
'Binky Boys' Dominate
Well that, was unexpected. Neither HowlGarret nor aNoahh even featured in 1s on Thursday, and have now sent the whole entire 2s bracket home packing.
After a shaky start to playoffs, Binks Boys didn’t look back, with Garret’s incredible 50s work and Noah’s defensive prowess combining for a stunning performance where they took down some of the best teams NA has to offer, locking in $1500 USD and crucial recognition for the invitational.
