Welcome to the first edition of our North American Rocket League power rankings. With the first regional’s completion, we’ve had the chance to gain insight into the best NA has to offer, and provide the following ranking:
1. NRG
Honestly, how can you place NRG anywhere but first? After a strong 1st placement in Fall split, and 2nd at the Stockholm major, NRG were one of the few teams to keep the same roster heading into the winter split.
Despite their rivals trying everything in an attempt to overcome the NA kings, they still comfortably reigned supreme in the first event of winter, and still seem that extra step ahead of the rest of the competition.
2. SSG
Questions were certainly asked of whether SSG could rebound and return to the high levels of NA Rocket League. Not only did they fail to qualify for the Stockholm major, but they lost one of the core pieces of their team, Sypical, replacing him with untested rookie Daniel.
But wow, did they truly prove their worth. Daniel was exquisite on debut, combining perfectly with Retals and Arsenal, which helped grant them victories over Rogue, Shopify, Oxygen, V1 and FaZe, earning themselves the 2nd place in the rankings.
3. FaZe
Came into the event expected to get 2nd, exited with 3rd. For a roster still adapting, it’s a more than acceptable result, with FaZe still looking almost on par with both NRG and SSG, and we’re sure they’ve got the potential to push back up into the top 2 soon.
4. G2
Watch this space. Admittedly, G2 did look very shaky at times throughout the weekend, a clear sign of their struggling to adapt with the quickly added Atomic. Despite this, they still looked very dangerous at times throughout the event, especially in their perfect sweep of major top 8 team Complexity, as well as missing out on top 4 by just a goal, meaning G2 could be seen back near the top very shortly.
5. V1
The addition of young prodigy Beastmode has breathed some much needed life into the V1 roster. Although they still sit a long way below the big 3, shown through their being on the wrong end of sweeps from both FaZe and SSG, they appear to be close to the best of the rest, securing a top 4 placement and two wins over G2 to solidify themselves as a dark horse contender.
6. Complexity
Don’t let one bad event persuade you otherwise, the SAM kings are still going to be serious contenders in NA. Following their incredible top 8 finish in Stockholm, Complexity has had limited training in the break between splits, which was exhibited in a destruction at the hands of G2.
Still finished top 8, and will be a force to be reckoned with once they find their feet once again and get back on track.
7. Oxygen
Oxygen proved this weekend that they are certainly no joke, and will be an outside contender to make the major out of NA. With the addition of gimmick before the split, and coming off top 8 in Fall regional event 3, Oxygen shocked the region in group D, taking down Complexity and Envy, as well as a solid Soniqs, to secure top 6.
Although they quickly bundled out of playoffs, their only losses came to #1 and 2 on this list, so we’re yet to see how they match up with the rest of the pack.
8. Rogue
A pretty hard luck draw for Rogue on the weekend, but they certainly have the potential. Based purely off stats, Aqua was actually the best player on the weekend, and although they went home in 9th-12th, their playoffs loss came in game 5 to Complexity after facing the group of death, meaning there’s huge possibility for future improvement as the team continues to band together, and as Gyro recovers from Covid.
9. Shopify Rebellion
Came into the split following a disrupted Fall, following Beastmode’s departure, with the new addition of Paarth and a rebranded outlook on the competition. Although they were certainly on the radar, their performance exceeded expectations, going 3-0 in closed qualifiers before producing shock wins over both Ghost and G2 in groups.
They also took down rising stars RBG in playoffs, locking in a top 8 finish which more than justifies their spot in this list, especially given the run they had to face to get here.
10. Team Envy
For a team with a 4 time world champion, a LAN champion, and a rising prodigy, this recent result was absolutely abysmal. They were demolished in groups, going 0-3 in a group where they were given the chance to come out on top, and although they’re still adjusting to the difference between dreaz and Atomic, Envy are going to have to quickly improve if they want to even stay on this list.
