Following 2 weeks of competition in the winter split, it’s about time we release our first edition of power rankings for the OCE Rocket League scene.
Renegades
Renegades may have faltered on championship Sunday in regional event 1, with losses to Forkidden and Dire Wolves, but quickly returned to form in the 2nd regional of winter.
In an undefeated run, the Renegades’ experienced roster overcame 5 teams on this list; Team Bliss, 1620 Kings, Juicd Bandits, Ground Zero and finally a dominant grands win over the rising Forkidden. Paired with 2 regional wins in fall and strong performances at the major with wins over Furia and Endpoint, the Renegades more than deserve this first place position.
2. Forkidden
As seems to be a recurring factor at the minute, Forkidden are the 2nd placed team on our list. Despite the entire team of teens being relatively new to RLCS, they’ve quickly matured and have the ability to perfectly hold their nerve under pressure.
Dubbed ‘The Kids’, this team of young prodigies has placed 2nd at the last 3 regional events, with their winter victories including 2 wins over Ground Zero, a win against 1st placed Renegades, a game 7 clinching win against Dire Wolves, and domination against some of the lower ranked teams on the list, more than proving their worth as a top caliber team.
3. Dire Wolves
After a solid performance in fall, where the team finished in a tie for 4th, Dire Wolves started the winter split with a bang. The combination of Walcott’s experience and cool headedness, with the mechanical poise of his younger counter parts, and the seemingly thriving environment helped guide Dire Wolves to a win in the first event of winter.
On their path to victory, the Wolfpack dropped just 5 games total across the 3 days, and although they were sent home in 4th in the second event with a heart breaking game 7 loss to Forkidden, the Dire Wolves certainly remain a contender for LA and will be fighting hard in the next event.
4. Ground Zero
Ground Zero is one of the biggest fallers in this list, and definitely won’t be pleased with their winter split thus far. After being ranked #1 in OCE in fall, and going 2-3 at the major, Ground Zero would have been hoping to be a lock for the LA major, but that hasn’t exactly gone to plan.
After losing to Wildcard in groups and Forkidden in the lower bracket, GZ dropped out in 7th-8th for the 1st regional, and losses to Renegades and Forkidden sent them home in 3rd for the second event. Although they’re still a top level team, Ground Zero will need to recover their previous form to push back higher up this list.
5. Team Bliss
One of the biggest risers of the winter split is team flower power. Bliss was consistent in fall, making at least top 11 all three times, but only made playoffs once, and struggled against the top level teams.
Yet in winter, with the addition of Zen, Bliss are looking like a whole new beast. In the first event, they took out Antic, a top 8 team from the first split, in groups, and made an extraordinary lower bracket run with wins over Collateral, Bandits and Wildcard to secure a top 4 finish.
Although a poor group stage in the 2nd event put them in a tough situation, they still managed to sweep Wildcard in lower bracket round 1, followed by a competitive loss to Dire Wolves, going home in 7th-8th, but showing again their ability to beat the rising teams and earning them a spot in the top half of this list.
6. R!OT Gaming
The third ranked team in fall, who never dropped out of the top 4, would be hugely disappointed in their playoffs performances thus far. Despite going 6-0 in groups, boasting wins over Dire Wolves, Bandits and Big Goose, R!OT have hugely flopped in playoffs.
Their overall games record in playoffs this split has been 2-16, as they’ve been dismantled and outpaced by the teams above them, meaning that even if they’re still able to make top 6 back to back, they’ll need to find something extra to push any higher on the list and rejuvenate their fall split form.
7. Juicd Bandits
The Bandits have thus far been a tough team to get a read on, and appear to be right now a gate keeper between the lower ranks and the higher. In the first event, they beat up on lower ranked teams, but were overcome by the poise of R!OT and Bliss in game 5.
In the second event, they looked very strong in groups, but faded late against the Gades in uppers, and were smashed by the Dire Wolves, meaning that although they get the nod above the lower ranked teams here, there needs to be more consistency for the Bandits to move into the top 5, which with the depth and talent of their roster, should be where they belong.
8. Wildcard Gaming
One of the top rated teams heading into the season, Wildcard were struck down by the accusations and ban of Decka. Although Mock has been a worthy replacement, Wildcard are struggling to recover their RLCS X form, where the core part of the roster placed 2nd overall.
Although their group stage results have been strong, with a 5-1 record and wins over 1620 Kings and Ground Zero, they’re 0-3 in playoffs, and will need to find more fire power on offence if they’re to push up this list.
9. Big Goose
One of the more difficult teams to place on this list is Big Goose. Although, on paper, they’re not the strongest, most experienced team, but their results have been consistent.
Although they’re a long way behind OCE’s big 8, they’ve been the most consistent of the rest of the pack, as the only team outside the top 8 ranked teams to make back to back top 12s, and therefore earn themselves the 9th position.
10. 1620 Kings
The final spot on this list goes to one of the fastest improving teams in OCE. After placing 15th-16th in the first event of fall, and failing to qualify for the second, few would have envisioned the kings as a challenging team in the future.
Yet since then, 1620 Kings placed 9th-11th in fall’s final event, and have greatly impressed in winter thus far, falling in game 5 to both Wildcard and Ground Zero, before recently sweeping Bliss and 3-1 over the The CEO’s shows them as a dark horse team for top 8, however, they need to improve their performances in the big moments, with a 0-3 record in game 5s for winter and 0-2 record in elimination matches.
