After 6 weeks of competition across both 1s and 2s, this week concludes the regular season’s action, with some players and teams sitting in precarious positions where high placements are heavily required.
1s Storylines
Can The King Be Conquered?
Schmory is the six time champion of the RLO Swipe 1s series. Although this week he did display signs of mortality, he remains undefeated.
Despite being far clear of the pack in terms of points, and comfortably secured for playoffs, a loss here could show the rest of the field that he can be beaten, which could be important for the other 7 mentally heading into finals.
Ocean And Rubblage Scrap For 8th Place:
After a poor start to the event off the back of some difficult draws, 3 top 8 finishes in the space of 4 weeks has put Rubblage back into contention.
His nail biting 2-1 win against Ocean this week was crucial for his chances, with just 10 points separating the 8th placed Ocean and 9th placed Rubblage. Given how seedings are likely to turn out, they’ll be pitted against each other in the ro16, a match which unless a lower ranked player exceeds expectations, will determine who goes to playoffs for a guaranteed $300 USD, and who goes home empty handed.
Battle For Top 4:
There's a big advantage, with two lives and guaranteed top 6, of placing in the top 4. Currently, Schmory and Peak have the top 2 seeds completely wrapped up, however, 3rd-4th is up for contention, with only 40 points separating Scarth, Jordy, Trademrk and Matro, meaning there could be some pivotal quarter final matchups and performances that will determine this seeding.
2s Storylines
Pots and Pans Vs Sour S’mores:
Luva and De-Papel are two of the best players in 1s, yet have struggled greatly in 2s, with their Pots and Pans currently sitting on 150 points in 9th. However, fortunately for them, Sour S’mores’ shock semi final loss this week, putting them on 161 points, puts them firmly still in the fight, with a likely first round of playoffs matchup determining who goes through to finals, and who’s sent home.
Although Sour S’mores have to be the resounding favorites if it comes down to this matchup, Pots and Pans should not be easily estimated, and anything can happen in a BO3.
Can Les Renards Crack Top 4?
Out of the six weeks of 2s, Les Renards' roster of Foxxy and Frenchie has made it to the quarter finals an extraordinary 5/6 times. However, despite their consistency, they've failed to win a single quarter finals matchup, with their results placing them at 6th on the ladder.
Although a top 4 seed is most likely out of question, achieving a top 4 finish would be a valuable milestone for this team, and prove that they're worthy of competing with the best in OCE, even with their slower, less mechanical play style.
Underdogs Vs Imagine Losing:
This week, Underdogs fell at the hands of Imagine Losing, after a week 5 ro16 loss to Sour S'mores. After being placed 3rd for a large chunk of the split, the Underdogs now find themselves outside of the top 4 for the first time since week 1, with a rematch against Imagine Losing in the quarter finals looming.
If Underdogs' roster of Avenged and Dark.king is able to take down Imagine Losing, a further win in the semi finals would be enough to grant them top 4 seeding, meaning that the Underdogs have everything to gain, whilst Imagine Losing have everything to lose.
