The C9 Vs Queso Debate

Since their run in LA, one key question has emerged: whether the lower bracket run of Cloud9 in Season 6 or Team Queso’s at the LA Major were more impressive. After some deep thoughts, we believe we’ve found our own answer. Here are our the points of reason for our choice, and overall opinion on which performance holds the spot of best run in RLCS history.

A Dynasty Shattered

When it came to grand finals opponents, C9 undoubtedly had the more difficult matchup, and the more crucial win. They were going up against the legendary Dignitas lineup, who were the back to back reigning world champions, and hadn’t even lost a single series for the whole season, make their victory a true David Vs Goliath triumph.

Expectations

Coming into the event, many expected Queso to perform at a high standard. They were Europe’s #1 seed, were coming off 2 regional wins in Winter, and were seemingly deemed a lock within the top few teams.

C9, conversely, came into the event as North America’s #3 seed during an era of European dominance, meaning that hopes were low about C9’s run through the bracket.

Finishing The Job

At the end of the day, one went all the way, and the other fell just short. When it came down to it, C9 finished off their event in stunning fashion, dismantling Dignitas 4-1 4-1 in grands. Queso, on the other hand, fell short, 2-4 in the final series to G2, and were unable to actually finish off the run.

Overall Thoughts

Ultimately, both runs certainly contained many miracles within the matchups. Both teams stared down the face of elimination multiple times, both represented their region’s last hope in the final stages of the tournament, both eliminated the minor regions at what appeared to have been their peaks, and both had moments where all 3 members of the team proved their worth when it mattered most.

But when it all comes down to it, C9’s run just had that little more flair, that touch of specialness in the manner in which it was done, and are thus, in our view, still the greatest run of all time.
